In 2012 Tim Ainsworth and Vanessa Howells opened THIRDS Fine Art Printing. The aim was to create a studio that, rather than being purely focused on the technical printing process, reflected our strong belief in a consultative client/printer relationship, as well as our esteem and respect for the artistic process.
Above all, THIRDS is a friendly, collaborative space where the three of us – Tim, Vanessa, and you – work together to make the best possible prints. From a technical point of view, we specialise in archival pigment printing on cotton rag papers (also referred to as Giclée Printing) to produce prints at the highest, exhibition standards. We stock a wide range of paper, so your work is always printed on the “right paper” (if there is such a thing).

To ensure you receive the best possible print, we use the latest technology. Epson SC-P20070 (64in wide) and SC-P9070 (44in wide) pigment printers are driven by Serendipity’s Megarip, custom ICC profiles proved by Les Walking and Ezio Monitors. We’re also a Canson Certified Master Printer. All of this allows us to make accurate soft-proofs and image adjustments for your print.
We provide quotes for jobs of any size via phone or e-mail. Quoting is our preferred method as we’re able to ensure your prints are made on the most economical roll and sheet sizes available. For a basic quote, we need a rough print dimension(s) and any quantity information.

All in-person studio pickup/drop-off services (print collections, print viewings, consults etc.) will be via appointment.

We are humbled by Hillvale for the space they offered us, and we would like to be mindful of our foot traffic. For the next little bit, we’ll only have one client in the studio at a time: the perk, you’ll always have all our attention.
If you’re happy for us to pre-pack your job for collection, there’s no need to make an appointment.
We know it’s a change from how we do things, and our open-door studio will return soon. Rest assured, you’ll still be able to see us quickly, with short notice, and we’ll always make time to see you. We thank you for your understanding and support during these transitional times.
We ask for digital files to be provided online. You can send them via your preferred file transfer service. Dropbox (contact us to set up your Dropbox Share Folder), WeTransfer, Google Drive, and Digital Pigeon are all great.
If you’re unable to upload files, place them on a USB stick and drop off at our studio or pop it in the post.
THIRDS will handle all image resizing and colour conversions (to custom ICC printer profiles) for print. Never convert a file to CMYK for printing at THIRDS. If your file was produced in CMYK, please leave it and supply it as is.
For export settings/file types please let us know the software, device or processes you are working with, and we’ll get back to you with the best settings to use. Unlike traditional print labs, we do all the file set-up for you.
Typically, our turnaround is four-five working days + delivery (if needed).
